AICE Global Perspectives AS Level Summer Reading Assignment 2015

Mission: “To achieve knowledge of “Edited Written English”-the standard of educated writers and speakers of English-and to read, examine, and write about literature.  Certainly, we take many liberties with grammar and usage when we speak, and professionals often intentionally break rules when they write.  However, in order to break rules effectively, one has to know the rules.” The materials in this course address that need.  We also will focus on understanding how “To be Successful.” Understanding the principles behind this statement, will help each of you move in that direction.

Dear Parents,

I would like to “Welcome” you to your child’s new classroom, and would like to invite you to stop in at any time.  I know your child’s time here will be a positive and productive one.  He or she may even come home exhausted from the challenging material presented to them throughout the day.

Through a continued commitment to excellence, you will find that the environment in which your child spends his or her time will be a safe and satisfying one.  We will be exploring the wonderful world of Literature through the use of traditional and contemporary resource materials:  The Count of Monte Cristo, "The Taming of the Shrew," "Richard III,"  "Young Goodman Brown," "A Modest Proposal," and "The Yellow Wallpaper."  In the end, each day will be a new adventure, allowing all students the opportunity to reach for the stars.

Finally, I would like each parent to know that his or her child will be receiving one of the finest educations within the state by attending Eau Gallie High School.  Therefore, I would like to welcome each one of you to a fantastic new year!!

If you ever have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress (Grade Quick: Biweekly postings), or behavior within the classroom, please feel free to call, check my website come by at any time, or email me for bulletins on your child’s development (shelton.Michael@brevardschools.org) (242-6400 ext ).  I am looking forward to a wonderful year.  Have a great day!
